Fine arts organizations or groups which do not have state or federal non-profit status may collaborate with another 501(c)3 organization, who acts as the applicant's fiscal sponsor.
A fiscal sponsor is any federal non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization that agrees to accept funds restricted for the sponsored project. The tax-exempt organization accepts full responsibility to ensure the funds are properly spent and any donations are considered tax-exempt for the donor.
Funds received through a fiscal sponsorship agreement should be for a project that is in line with the sponsor's own tax exempt purpose.
